Uxbridge, ON: Fresh from his win at the Men’s Better Ball Championship earlier this week, Richard Jung of North York shot a final round three under par 69 to capture the Investors Group Junior Spring Classic at Wooden Sticks Golf Club in Uxbridge, Ontario.

 

Jung finished well ahead of the field with a seven-stroke victory over first round co-leaders Austin Kelly of Chatham and Mitch Sutton of London. Daniel Kim of Toronto shared the three-way tie for second place with final score of 223.

 

 “I just stayed focused throughout the day,” said Jung of his victory. “I tried to play my own golf and not focus on the rest of the field.”

 

Jung, who finished with a total score of 216, also captured the Juvenile crown and receives an automatic exemption into the Investors Group Ontario Junior Championship and the Canadian Junior Championship.

 

In the Girls’ Division, Nicole Vandermade of Brantford Golf and Country Club shot a final round 71 and captured the Junior Girls’ Championship by four strokes. 2008 marks Vandermade’s third consecutive win at Wooden Sticks.

 

“Looking at the other names on the trophy, it’s an elite group,” said Vandermade. “It’s quite an honour to be among the other winners of this event.”

 

The University of Texas bound Brantford native finished the tournament with three rounds in the 70’s and a 223 score overall.

 

2005 Champion Laura Hildebrandt of Ancaster battled Vandermade throughout the weekend for the top spot, but couldn’t overcome a four stroke deficit. Hildebrandt shot a 2 over par 74 on the final day to finish with a 227 overall. Brittany Marchand of Orangeville held onto third spot, finishing ten strokes back from Vandermade at 233.
