E. Qualifying Information

Qualifying Location

Qualifying will take place at various qualifying sites throughout the province on April 27, 2008.  Applicants may choose any site they wish subject to availability.

Click here for Junior Girls' locations.

Places, Ties, Substitutions

The GAO will determine the number of qualifiers’ places at each location after entries close based on the size of the qualifying field to the overall number of qualifying entries. A tie for last qualifiers’ place will be decided by the GAO tie breaking method. If a qualifying location cannot fill its qualifiers’ places, or if an exempt player withdraws, the place made available will be re-allotted to the Alternate List prearranged by the GAO. Alternates have no status at the Championship.

Acceptance of Places, Notice of Withdrawal

Following play on the day of Qualifying, every successful qualifier will automatically be entered into the Championship at Wooden Sticks with no additional fee. If a qualifier or exempt player withdraws, he/she must notify the sectional official or the GAO (905) 852-1101 promptly in order to insure an Alternate fair opportunity to play. Failure to comply may result in disqualification from future GAO competition.

L. Junior Code of Conduct

The Golf Association of Ontario has a goal of having all of its tournaments recognized as the best Amateur Golf Tournaments in Ontario. To ensure that this is achieved, it is essential that the groundwork is developed at the Junior Golf level in order that the players who move on to the Amateur level demonstrate respect for the game, for the host clubs who provide their facilities for events, and for the communities in which the events are conducted.

In order to continue to make Golf Association of Ontario Junior Tournaments an enjoyable experience for all who participate and all volunteers who assist in organizing the events, the Association requires that all of the participants in its events adhere to a Code of Conduct. The purpose of the Code is to assist those participants in Golf Association of Ontario Junior events, to learn, grow and mature, through understanding and accepting accountability for their actions. The Code of Conduct is a guideline that participants are expected to follow throughout their stay at events, both on and off the golf course.

1.       The Code of Conduct requires that, while on the Golf Course, all players:
a) will strictly adhere to the Rules of Golf
b) will adhere to the dress code during practice and competitive rounds
c) will complete all competitive rounds of golf, unless otherwise approved by the GAO Tournament Committee
d) will demonstrate respect for volunteers, spectators, tournament officials, the host course, and the host community
e) will not throw clubs
f)  will not use tobacco products, drugs, or alcohol
g) will not use abusive language
h) will not demonstrate any other conduct not becoming of a GAO member
2.       The Code of Conduct requires that, while off the Golf Course, all players:
a) will avoid any association with drugs, tobacco, and alcohol
b) will not be associated with vandalism at the host or accommodation facilities
c) will not demonstrate abusive behaviour to any fellow competitors, tournament officials, host club members, or community officials
d) will avoid any other conduct not becoming of a GAO member
3.       Proper attire is required at all times while at the golf facility. Failure to comply may result in disqualification. The Golf Association of Ontario Dress Code prohibits tank tops, t-shirts, and blue jeans. In addition, all headgear must be worn properly, all shirts must be tucked in, and all players must wear collared shirts or turtlenecks.

4.       The Golf Association of Ontario Officials at Junior Tournaments may assess any or all of the following penalties based on the severity of the Code of Conduct violation:
a) issue a written letter of warning to any or all of the player, parents, and Officials at their home club
b) disqualify the player from the tournament at which the violation occurs
c) reject selection of the player for Teams that represent the Golf Association of Ontario
d) disqualify the player from future tournament(s) for which they are eligible
e) suspend the player’s membership in the Golf Association of Ontario, indefinitely
In the event of a suspension, both the player and his/her parent(s)/guardian(s) will be required to submit a written account of the Code of Conduct violation to the Golf Association of Ontario Board of Directors within fifteen (15) days of the suspension, and may be required to attend a meeting with the Golf Association of Ontario Officials. The Player Development Committee of the Board of Directors will review all submitted materials, including a Tournament Official’s account of the incident, and then determine the length of the suspension.

Any player, whose membership is under suspension, will not be considered for post-season rankings, exemptions for future events, or selection for teams representing the Golf Association of Ontario.
