Byrne to Square Off Against Larente in Final Round of Men's Match Play Championship

Port Carling, ON - Two golfers remain following the semi-final round of the Golf Association of Ontario's Men's Match Play Championship this afternoon at The Lake Joseph Club. Defending champion David Byrne of Essex, Ontario will take on Brad Larente of Cambridge in Thursday's final round.

Byrne, who represents Sutton Creek Golf and Country Club, defeated 2003 Champion David Bunker of Woodbridge 2&1 in a close match this afternoon that recalled last year's quarter-finals, when Byrne topped Bunker 1up. Byrne is hoping to capture his second Match Play championship in the sixth and final round after the field of 64 was whittled down to two following three days of competition.

Former Junior Boys Match Play finalist Brad Larente of Whistle Bear Golf Club bested Patrick Williams of Toronto 2up to earn a spot in the final round. The 20-year old Cambridge resident is looking to upset Byrne's quest to be only the second player to win the title two years in a row.

Final round action gets under way at 7:59 am Thursday morning.
