Byrne, Bunker Advance to Quarter Finals of Men’s Match Play
Port Carling, ON: Rounds two and three of the 2008 Men’s Match Play Championship concluded today at The Lake Joseph Club, cutting the field down to eight golfers heading into tomorrow’s quarter-finals.
Action continued late into the evening following an hour and a half rain delay due to thundershowers in the morning. Rain continued intermittently throughout the day at the Muskoka area course.
2007 champion David Byrne of Essex, Ontario continued his quest for a repeat victory defeating two Barrie residents - a 1up victory over Daley Byles in round two, and a 2up win over Brad Greenside in round three this afternoon. Byrne will now face Picton’s Luc McKaw, who bested Windsor’s Jack Garswood after two extra holes in round three.
Dave Bunker of Woodbridge defeated Eric Pattenaude of Sarnia and Nathan Fenlon of Dorchester to square off tomorrow against Cam Burke of Baden, Ontario, who topped this year’s Men’s Better Ball winner Albin Choi of Toronto.
Also continuing in tomorrow’s quarter finals are Brad Larente of Cambridge who will face Mitch Sutton of London, and Gary Young of Mississauga versus Patrick Williams of Toronto.
Quarter final action gets under way Wednesday morning, followed by semi-finals in the afternoon. The final 18 hole match will take place Thursday morning.
